If you've ever been to an All-Star Acoustic Jam, you know the highlight is always the show-ending jam session. The 2008 Jam was certainly no exception. Nearly every artist in the lineup returned to the Hard Rock stage to be part of a once-in-a-lifetime free-for-all.
The jam began with a surprise - as Clay Walker decided to join Tracy Lawrence on stage during his set. Before you knew it, Joe Nichols, Jake Owen and Mark Chesnutt were part of the session. Heartland and show opener Jim Van Fleet joined the fracas, too. Songs from Hank Williams, Jr., David Allan Coe and even Prince were covered. Mark Chesnutt showed the crowd his drumming ability (not a first - Chesnutt played drums at an earlier jam years ago!)
Sweet Home Alabama, Country Boy Can Survive and Purple Rain made the impromptu set list and the night ended with a solo acapella version of I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry by Chesnutt.
Backstage, the question came up as to where this one ranks in jam history. Just to be mentioned as one of the best is a compliment, and there's no doubt that the 2008 Jam makes the list.
The Amazing History of The Jam
After all these years and artists (Clint Black, Rascal Flatts, Sara Evans, Trace Adkins, Tracy Byrd, Blake Shelton, Kix Brooks, and dozens more), it's hard to believe that the Jam began an afterthought...by, of all people, Kenny Chesney.
