LENO TALKS CONAN, DAVE AND BAD RATINGS!
In a new interview with Broadcasting & Cable, Jay Leno comments on the sex scandal that has plagued his former rival, David Letterman. Leno said he doesn't think the controversy surrounding Letterman's affairs with staffers, "will have a big effect at all." "If it were me, it would kill me. I'm the guy who's been married 29 years," said Jay. But Dave has never pretended to be Mr. Moral America, he's never set himself up that way. He's not a hypocrite."
As for his replacement, Conan O'Brien, Leno said he's "doing fine," but acknowledges that he would rather still be at 11:30 than 10 pm. "Conan is in the same position I was in when I took over," he said. "It takes a while. Some will like it; some will leave forever and not come back."
Finally, Leno's new show has suffered from bad ratings and bad reviews, but the host doesn't seem to let it get to him. "I get a certain amount of satisfaction from pounding my head against the wall," he said. "I'm not having a bad time at 10 o'clock now. I look at this as a job, and now I'm faced with a challenge, and it's a challenge I find difficult but interesting."
