Taylor Swift is poised for another big awards night. The singer, who last week was named the Country Music Association's Entertainer of the Year, is the top nominee for this weekend's American Music Awards. She's in the running in six categories, including the top prize of Artist of the Year. She's also up for Favorite Female Artist in both the Country and Pop/Rock categories as well as Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist, and her CD "Fearless" has a bid for Favorite Album in both Country and Pop/Rock.
Rascal Flatts and the Zac Brown Band are each two-time Country nominees. They're both up for Favorite Band, Duo, or Group, along with Sugarland, while Rascal Flatts' "Unstoppable" and the Zac Brown Band's "Foundation" are facing off against Swift's "Fearless" for Favorite Album. Swift's competition for Country - Favorite Female Artist is Reba McEntire and Carrie Underwood. Keith Urban, Jason Aldean, and Darius Rucker are vying for Country - Favorite Male Artist. Gloriana is representing country in vying for the multi-genre Breakthrough Artist Award.
AMA nominations are based on music sales and radio airplay, while winners have been picked by the public. Carrie Underwood is among the stars scheduled to take part in the ceremony. The 2009 American Music Awards will be presented at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live and air on ABC on Sunday.
