Strait's "Troubadour" Hits Stores Today
The art of the troubadours was one in which music and poetry were combined in the service of the courtly ideal, the ideal of fin'amours (refined love). George Strait has traveled an interesting path from the spring of 1981 when "Unwound" was released as his first single on MCA. Twenty-seven years later, Strait is releasing his 37th album, which he says is fittingly titled "Troubadour." (check it out). After nearly 30 years in the business, Strait has the right to call on a few friends to help him out and he does just that on this disc. Patty Loveless lends her voice to the song "House of Cash," a tribute to the Man in Black's impact on music. Vince Gill joins Strait on "House With No Doors," a clever-but-wise reminder to the control freak in everyone. George has recorded more Dean Dillon songs than any other songwriter, and he invited the tunesmith to join him on Dean's "That West Texas Town." The new album was recorded at Jimmy Buffett's Shrimpboat Sound in Key West, Florida, where George recorded his last project. Strait says the studio, a beat-up shack on the waterfront that used to be a shrimp storage cooler, provided a very relaxing atmosphere in which to record. "Troubadour" is in stores today.
