Kenny Chesney Discusses His Storm-Shortened Dallas Concert
What a guy!
| Kenny Chesney says his washed out Dallas concert was "a lot of fun," but also quite costly. The singer's Sun City Carnival show Saturday was rained out when a severe thunderstorm blew through the area, forcing him to end his set after just 50-minutes. The country superstar tells "CMT Insider" that he and his staff had been keeping an eye on the weather throughout the day, and they knew it was possible they'd have to scrap the date. But they didn't see the weather as truly treacherous until after he'd started his performance. Chesney admits he'd never played under such conditions before, and describes it as like a "religious experience," calling the connection he felt with his fans "unbelievable." He says nobody was leaving, and he was astonished that the crowd, quote, "would sit through a rainstorm like that to hear a piece of music. It just goes to show you how really passionate, how loyal fans are." |
Chesney notes that the heavy downpour and lightning began about 40-minutes after he took the stage, and that's when it became clear that it would be "incredibly risky" to continue. He adds, quote, "We lost so much equipment that night. It was a really expensive show for us." But Chesney will be making it up to his Dallas area fans. He's rescheduled the show for May 17th. Stubs from Saturday's show will be honored on the new date.
