Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were last-minute additions to the major Live Earth event on Saturday. When Al Gore added a last minute concert in Washington, D.C. on the Live Earth schedule Saturday, he called on the husband-wife team to come and perform. Garth and Trisha sang "We Shall Be Free" at the National Mall, not far from the nation's capitol. According to CMT.com, the show was part of an already planned event called "Mother Earth." Elsewhere in the Live Earth schedule, Keith Urban teamed up with R&B singer Alicia Keys at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. The pair performed a duet of the Rolling Stones' classic "Gimme Shelter."
Concertgoers at all of the events were asked to find ways to cut back their "carbon footprint," and to demand that governments across the world cutback on greenhouse gases. In addition to New Jersey and Washington, D.C., the Live Earth concerts took place in Germany, London, Shanghai, Tokyo, Sydney, Johannesburg, Rio de Janeiro and even Antarctica where little-known band Nunatak performed a brief set fulfilling Gore's pledge to stage Live Earth on all seven continents on 7-7-07.
