Kenny Chesney Rocks Nashville!More than 47,000 fans watched Saturday as country superstar Kenny Chesney became the first act in six years to headline a music concert at Nashville's NFL football stadium.
In front of a massive gathering well more than twice the number of fans that attend other A-list country stars' concerts this summer Chesney topped a bill that also featured Gretchen Wilson, Big & Rich, Dierks Bentley and Little Big Town.
Chesney also invited "one of my best friends in the world" and fellow star Keith Urban onstage with him for a surprise collaboration of "Somebody Like You."
Stadium concerts are rare, because the costs of putting them on necessitate ticket sales that can only be attained by music's biggest stars. Last year, Chesney was country music's top touring act, grossing more than $60 million. "I first saw him in 1998," said David Frissell of St. Louis, Mo., who has attended 10 Chesney shows in the past 3½ years with his wife, Christina. "Back then, he was just a guy with a song or two on the radio, but that was it. Now... it's huge." While a usual Chesney show at an indoor arena requires about 18 trucks full of equipment, the stadium show necessitated 50 trucks.
