Carrie Underwood Celebrates Success of "So Small"

Life just got a little more golden for flaxen-haired Carrie Underwood. Now the bestselling album artist can also revel in being a No. 1 songwriter, thanks to her part in penning her current hit, "So Small."

ASCAP and BMI -- two major performance rights organizations -- threw separate parties at their Nashville headquarters Tuesday (Dec. 11) to celebrate Underwood's latest achievement, a victory she shared with "So Small" co-writers Hillary Lindsey and Luke Laird. Lindsay is an ASCAP-affiliated writer, while Underwood and Laird are signed to BMI. (click here to view photos in gallery)

"We knew [the song] was special right from the beginning," Underwood told reporters at a press conference just before the BMI celebration got underway. "I love how it turned out. I love listening to it." She added that she is more deliberate than spontaneous in her approach to songwriting. "I have to be in mode," she said.

Asked if she will be performing on the Grammy show Feb. 10, where she is up for two awards, Underwood was just framing a response when her publicist interrupted with, "That bridge has yet to be crossed." Thus cautioned, Underwood murmured, "I don't have anything to say about it."

Another reporter queried Underwood on a recent Forbes magazine article that listed her at No. 11 among the "Top 20 Earners Under 25" and estimated her 2007 income at $7 million. "We didn't release any of our financial records [for the story]," she said, adding that the estimate was off the mark (but not in which direction).

"The most money I spend is on furniture," she continued. "I've never purchased a car. I'm not a big spender. My mom did my taxes before."

Taylor Swift's Pink Birthday!

- From Taylor's Blog... Hey!! I got the best birthday present EVER.. Our Song is now in its SECOND week of being the NUMBER ONE song!!!! This is my first number one ever, and it couldn't have come at a cooler time! Yessssss. I had an amazing time at my party. I wore a hot pink dress. The party was a blast.. My favorite thing about it was this photo booth. All of us were taking pictures in there the whole night. We had tarot card readers and palm readers and all kinds of fun stuff to do. I've never really had a big birthday party before, so it was amazing to get that chance! My record label surprised me with this HUGE pink truck!! They're so sweet to me, and I've always wanted a truck. I want to thank you guys SO much for all of the birthday messages and comments!!!!! I love them so much. Between a Grammy nomination, a number one song, and all of your kind words, I had the best birthday EVER. Now I'm home for the holidays and am still trying to do my last minute shopping. I'm like an expert on talking myself out of buying something. SO I take forever to shop for Christmas presents. ha. Thank you SO much for calling radio stations and getting them to play my song. I wouldn't have a number one without you. I know that, and I love you SO much! Have an amazing Christmas.

Blake Shelton's charm will shine on new NBC show
Country music singer Blake Shelton gets a hug from Megan Roberts after she was selected by Shelton to be in his choir.

Blake Shelton has one of the best — and funniest — personalities on Music Row, so many music insiders believe he's a natural to host a television talk show.

He has a treasure-trove of one-liners and a delivery that rivals a stand-up comedian's. Perhaps you've seen some of his off-the-cuff remarks during CMT shows.

On Monday, the rest of the nation will discover what Music Row has known for years because he is one of the celebrities competing in the NBC reality show Clash of the Choirs, which airs at 7 p.m. beginning Monday, Dec. 17th.

He'll compete against Patti LaBelle, Michael Bolton, Nick Lachey and Kelly Rowland to form the best choir.

Is Blake interested in hosting a TV show?

"That would be a lot easier than what I'm doing," quips the country singer. Then, turning serious, he says, "No, not really. Not at this time.

"I'm still so mixed up in country music that I don't think I would be interested in anything other than learning how to win in the country music industry first before I move on to something else. They're going to have to kick me out before I try something else."

Happy Birthday to Taylor Swift!
